William Grant Still (1895-1978)
Weekend Roundup
Richard Selden
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic
will perform two works by American composers: William Grant Still’s
“Symphony No. 1” — which incorporates blues progressions and rhythms
characteristic of jazz and gospel — and Mark Edwards Wilson’s “Piano
Concerto,” with soloist Thomas Pandolfi. The program also includes a
piece by this year’s composition competition winner. Tickets to the
concert, at the Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G St. NW, are $20 (free for age 18 and younger). For details, visit wmpamusic.org.
