Opera singer Jessye Norman, whose Augusta
namesakes include the Jessye Norman Amphitheater and the Jessye Norman
School of the Arts, has donated thousands of documents and recordings to
the Library of Congress.
According to a news release, the acquisition was announced Thursday with Norman in the Coolidge Auditorium inside the library.
Norman’s donation totals about 29,000 pieces that include the music of Duke Ellington and musical arrangements by George and Ira Gershwin, along with schedules and itineraries from her early career in Europe and her performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
