Dr. Eric Conway writes:
Hello everyone,
Today the Morgan State University Choir sang for the Homegoing celebration of former choir member Kevon Dix. The service was held at Huber Memorial Church on 5700 Loch Raven, minutes from the university. Over eight hundred persons were in attendance to pay their last respects to Kevon. The parents said that they did not want any “sad" service for their son, and that it was NOT! Every song sung was encouraging.
Every speaker who reflected on Kevon’s life spoke of the possible encouragement that Kevon gave to all who knew him. A good number of the attendees were associated with Morgan - students, faculty, and administrators. Tanya Rush, representing Morgan, spoke eloquently about Kevon and how Kevon was truly a loss for his Morgan family as much as his immediate family. The message was given by Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam from Morning Star Baptist Church. The advice he gave to those in attendance was: “do not let you pain go in vain!” He preached that the greater the pain, the greater the purpose! We all must be better as a result of this tragedy!
I have never attended a homegoing service when at least twenty individuals decided to accept Christ as their Savior during the Invitation!
See program and pics sent from this day. The casket was adorned with a Morgan State University banner. He had a 2019 tassel in his hand, representing his projected graduation date in December 2019.
Kevon to only have been twenty-one years old, made a difference to a large number of individuals. May this be our respective personal testimony: "that our lives made a difference!"
