Happy New Year! We
hope that your 2015 is off to a good start. We have some wonderful news
to report: thanks to the generosity of people like you, we were able to
meet our fundraising challenge in December, raising $5800 for our Young Artists in Harmony program
and earning a $5000 match from the Stensrud Foundation. We are thrilled
to be able to start making plans for next year's residency at A Reason To Survive (ARTS) and are grateful to all of you who helped make this happen.
We are also excited to return to North County on February 18th with one of our signature concerts at Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. As in the past, the one-hour concert will be paired with an opportunity to view the works of resident artist Julian Kreimer, including a meet-and-greet with the artist and a special pre-concert reception with the musicians.
6PM wine & beer reception
7PM CONCERT
The
colorful program will include highlights from recent Art of Élan
seasons and features a variety of "memory pieces," written in honor of
someone or something in each composer's memory. The haunting "Mariel"
for cello and marimba by Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov opens the program, which also includes David Lang's string quartet, "wed," Judd Greenstein's
"At the end of a really great day," the hypnotic second string quartet
by Philip Glass entitled "Company," as well as the concert premiere of David Bruce's "Duettino."
