Prize-winning Cuban pianist, band leader
and composer Chucho Valdes will premiere, in the 6th edition of the
Chamber Music Festival, the Concierto de los Ancestros for piano and
orchestra composed by maestro Leo Brouwer.
As announced to the press by Brouwer on Wednesday, the premiere will
take place during the closing of the Festival at this city's Karl Marx
Theater.
The 6th Chamber Music Festival will be held from September 26 to
October 12, and will be dedicated to the 75th birthday of Brouwer.
The Festival will be attended by over 300 Cuban and foreign guests,
who for two weeks will take part in an intense programs of concerts,
debates and presentations of albums, books and scores.
Brouwer announced that important foreign artists will visit the
island for the occasion, like Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud,
U.S; vocalist Bobby McFerrin and Argentinean singer-songwriter Fito
Paez; as well as other musicians coming from Brazil, Mexico, Spain, the
Czech Republic, Colombia, Paraguay, Italy and Uruguay.
Cuba will be represented by the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, the
Schola Cantorum Coralina, the Presto String Quartet and the Buena Fe
duo, just to name a few groups.
