John Malveaux: 'I did not acknowledge LA Phil African American Raynor Carrol, Principal Percussion'

RAYNOR CARROLL joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as Co-Principal Percussionist/Timpanist in the 1983/84 season. In addition to his performances at Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts, Carroll participates in the LA Phil’s Green Umbrella and Chamber Music series. 

In addition to performing, Carroll is an active teacher/clinician on timpani, percussion, and West African drumming. He taught for nearly 20 years at his alma mater, California State University, Los Angeles, and currently teaches timpani and percussion at California State University, Long Beach. 

Carroll was a member of the 1990/91 Music Advisory Panel, Orchestra Section, for the National Endowment for the Arts.
