Jim Svejda's guest tonight will be George Walker, the first black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He won for his 1996 composition Lilacs, written for the Boston Symphony. Tune in for this work as well as Walker's Mass (arguably the great American mass setting), the Violin Concerto from 2009 (finished when he was 87) and the Lyric for Strings, which is the most-performed orchestral work by a living American composer. [George Walker (b. 1922) is profiled at AfriClassical.com]
