Dr. Eric Conway writes:
On
this unofficial national holiday, when the country is commemorating the
day in 1865 when our country’s slaves received word that they were
free, the Morgan choir will share a song that has been in our repertoire
for decades: "We’re All in the Same Boat Together.” This piece was
originally recorded by Tramaine Hawkins way back in the nineties. The
lyrics to this song are more relevant today than when the song was
originally released. Before you listen to this song, please allow the
lyrics below to resonate in your spirit on this special day in African
American history as well as this period of public health uncertainty.
Enjoy!
Eric

Verse 1
The way this world’s been goin
I don’t think very long
Everybody drifting in a different direction
Singing their own sweet song
If we can stand beside each other
No tide can rise too high
We all came on different ships but together
We’ll live or we’ll die
Chorus
Cause we’re all in the same boat brother
We’re sailing on the same rough sea
As long as we pull together
We’ll make back home safely
Got to help you and you got to help me.
Got to help you and you got to help me.
Verse 2
So many people call men hungry
But their crying out but we just don’t hear
Gotta be a lot more loving and sharing
And a lot less living in fear
If we can ride out this storm together,
But when the storms may rise
Tomorrow we’re going to see that storm just
Break through the sky!
Chorus
Cause we’re all in the same boat brother
We’re sailing on the same rough sea
As long as we pull together
We’ll make back home safely
Got to help you and you got to help me.
Got to help you and you got to help me.
Special Chorus
Cause we’re all in the same boat brother!
Gotta help you, gotta help me.
All in the same boat brother and sister!
Gotta help you, gotta help me.
