Notes from Vietnam Feb. 12, 2016
When Emmy Award-winning and
Oscar-nominated composer-performer Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ takes the
Paramount Theatre stage on February 12, she represents a living legacy
that bridges traditional Vietnamese music and the worlds of classical,
rap, jazz and hip-hop. Her "Lullaby for a Country" will receive its
world premiere that evening as part of the Symphony's Notes from Vietnam
program, which has a legacy of its own as part of our flagship annual
series that introduces some of the world’s symphonic music traditions.
It’s all part of our vision for bringing the community together, often
through music that audiences wouldn’t expect to hear from a symphony
orchestra. The concert also features a special guest from TV
and Broadway: Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, Modern Family and other credits), who will narrate Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.
