Tanzania alone is twice the size of California.
Dr. Abe Cáceres, well known ethnomusicologist and composer, will partner with the Chancel Choir and the Dolce Voce Youth Ensemble of Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, the Shaw University Choir, and other local artists including Dr. Alison Arnold (Irish flute), Mr. Tyler Johnson (bodhran), and Dr. Larry Abernathy (organ), to raise funds to send a piano and provide scholarship funds to the music department of Tumaini University Makumira.
The program entitled, “Laugh, Cry, Dance, Sigh: Music by Dr. Abe,” will feature original songs and choral works in several world music styles which incorporate audience participation.  Two additional selections will be offered by the Shaw University Choir, under the direction of Dr. Loñienta Thompson Cornwall.  Shaw University, located in Raleigh, is the oldest historically Black university in the country.
“Kirk of Kildaire obviously has historic ties to Ireland.  When Dr. Abernathy, Minister of Music of the Kirk, informed me that the “concert for a cause” was to be scheduled during African American History Month, it occurred to me to compose a new piece to honor the historic roots of both Africa and Ireland.”  “Called to a Vision: Celtic Ngoma,” is scored for organ, East and West African percussion, Irish bodhran, Irish flute and choir.  This will be a premiere performance of a unique Afro-Celtic fusion.
The program is free and open to the public; donations will be requested.  Tax deductible donations can also be made at Kirk of Kildaire, (919) 467-4944 (memo: Concerts for a Cause: Tanzania), Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, 800-638-3522 (memo: GMG0705), or www.WorldHouseMusic.org [memo: Tanzania]. We need to raise $35,000 to send a grand piano to Tumaini University and provide scholarships to students. A major donation of $20,000 or more earns naming rights to the piano.
The program will be an inter-generational, cross-cultural, urban-suburban, inter-racial, multilingual and interdenominational musical party with audience participation!
Come listen!  Come sing! Come dance!                                                                                                                                                                                 If you can’t come, please consider a donation to help send a piano to Tanzania!
