January
9, 2014 The Sphinx Organization has received a $4 Million anonymous
programmatic gift which is the largest single contribution in the
organization's history. The gift will expand the scope of Sphinx’s
educational and training programs that aim to empower its alumni to
pursue transformational artistic and career opportunities.
“We are deeply grateful for this incredibly generous gift which will enable us to capitalize tremendously
on the depth of the programs we have been building over the past two
decades," shared Founder and President of Sphinx, Aaron P. Dworkin.
As
a result, Sphinx is excited to announce an enhancement to the top
scholarship awards for its flagship program, the annual national Sphinx
Competition for young Black and Latino string players. The Senior
Division First place scholarship is now $50,000, with Second and Third
places at $20,000 and $10,000. The Junior Division scholarship structure
will be $10,000; $5,000 and $3,000 for the First, Second and Third
place.
In addition, Sphinx will launch a competitive
scholarship program for alumni of the Sphinx Competition, Sphinx
Virtuosi, Sphinx Performance Academy, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and the
2012 and 2013 Sphinx Medals of Excellence. Along with this, an
intensive training program is being established for emerging conductors
of color in partnership with several leading orchestras in the country.
In
the coming months, Sphinx will continue developing additional
initiatives designed to further expand the impact of its programs over
the next 5 years.
The mission of the Sphinx Organization is
