Powell for her upcoming Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement (Sunday,
January 25, at the Ebell Theater of Los Angeles), and in tribute to
Powell's transcription and early sound recording of Samuel
Coleridge-Taylor's Deep River (SC-T 1905/Powell 1911), I am releasing on a temporary basis Chapter Fifteen from the film Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and His Music in America, 1900-1912.
In this segment, you can hear Powell's 1911 Victor Talking Machine recording of SC-T's Deep River,
with commentary by violinist Rachel Barton Pine, Karen Shaffer
(President of the Maud Powell Society) and Wayne Shirley (Senior Music
