Antoine Griggs
Antoine studied voice with tenor, Timothy Miller and was also a
member of the world renowned Morehouse College Glee Club, under the
direction of Dr. David E Morrow. Antoine is now attending
Georgia State University School of Music where he is studying with
mezzo-soprano, Kathryn Hartgrove.
Also Antoine sings with the
professional choral ensemble "Uzee Brown Society of Choraliers"
under the direction of Dr. Uzee Brown, Jr. He is also a staff singer
at Northside Drive Baptist Church, under the direction of Paul
Fletcher. Antoine has had the privilege to sing with Capitol City
Opera covering the small role as the customs officer in Puccini’s
La Boheme. Also Antoine will be performing the role of Albert in
Georgia State University Opera Theater production of Werther by
Massenet under direction of Carroll Freeman.
Antoine has participated
in master classes with many world-renowned singers. Some include
Thomas Hampson, Lawrence Brownlee, Daniel Washington, Roderick Dixon,
Angela Brown and Robert Sims. Beyond his national accomplishments,
Mr. Griggs has had the opportunity to participate in the Siena Summer
music program in Italy.
Antoine has been a recipient of many
awards which include First place winner of the 2012 Heritage Music
Festival Competition, Gold Medalist in the Detroit NAACP ACT-SO
Contemporary Vocal music competition, First Place winner of the
Madonna University Master Class singers award, First place Award
from the Nelson Foundation award in honor of Resident Conductor of
the Detroit symphony Orchestra Thomas Wilkins, and the James Tatum
Scholarship award. Antoine was selected in July 2009 to be a
participant in the Berkshire Choral Festival in Sheffield
Massachusetts by the chairman of the music department Dr. Uzee
Brown Jr.
