Don't
forget to register for the 2013 National UGRR Conference, June 19-22 in
Little Rock, Arkansas. The Association for the Study of African
American Life and History, Inc. (ASALH) is proud to partner with the National Park Service Network to Freedom to convene the conference.
The
theme for this year's conference is The War for Freedom: The
Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The conference will
commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Emancipation Proclamation, as
well as the 15th Anniversary of the National Underground Railroad
Network to Freedom. The four-day conference will include renowned
speakers, panel discussions, an exhibit hall, and tours of state and
local museums and historic sites in Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and Helena.
This year's keynotes are:
- James Downs, PhD, Associate Professor of History at Connecticut College
- Thavolia Glymph, PhD, Associate Professor of African and African American History at Duke University
- Matthew Pinsker, PhD, Pohanka Chair of Civil War History at Dickinson College
