The Sphinx Virtuosi, a top-notch group of young black and Latino string players, will visit Milwaukee Friday and Saturday for concerts and outreach activities in conjunction with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The Sphinx Virtuosi is a conductorless ensemble drawn from alumni of Sphinx competitions. The group's repertoire includes music by African-American and Latino composers.

The Sphinx Virtuosi will play at 7 p.m. concert Friday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 812 N. Jackson St. Tickets are $10, $25 for reserved seating. Call (414) 267-2950 for tickets or buy them at the door.

Sphinx musicians also will perform during Saturday's gala in honor of Fran Richman, who is retiring after 24 years as MYSO's executive director. The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St. 
During their weekend in Milwaukee, Sphinx musicians will also give recitals at MPS schools and take part in other outreach activities.
