Outer Cape Chorale Chamber Singers. The Lee Shore. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (3:53)
The Chamber Singers of the Outer Cape
Chorale under the direction of Jon Arterton perform at Wellfleet
Preservation Hall. These a capella singers are members of the chorale
who perform all over the Cape. Their repertoire includes Classical,
Folk, Spiritual, African, and American Standard selections plus much
more.
This selection is entitled "The Lee Shore," written by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. These are the lyrics:
Sleet and hail and thunder!
And ye winds that rave
Till the sands thereunder
Tinge the sullen wave.
Winds that like a demon
Howl with horrid note
From his humble dwelling
On the shingly shore;
Sleet and hail and thunder.
From that weeping woman,
Seeking with her cries
Succour superhuman
From the frowning skies.
From the urchin pining
For his father's knee,
From the lattice shining
Drive him out to sea
Let broad leagues dissever
Him from yonder foam!
O God to think man ever
Comes too near his home!
