Annapolis Area Church Choirs will perform Section V of 'The Atonement' of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Aug. 26, 2012

[Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912)]

On August 10, 2012 AfriClassical posted: "EyeOnAnnapolis.net: 'Annapolis Area Church Choirs Join' in 'The Atonement' of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Aug. 26, 2012 Six Days Before Centennial of His Death."  We forwarded the post to James R. Fitzpatrick, Music Director, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Annapolis.  He replies:

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement.  I did want to point out that the article published by Eye On Annapolis omitted the fact that we are only performing section V of the Coleridge-Taylor work.  It is subtitled Calvary.  The full work contains five sections and goes back and forth between serious oratorio form and more operatic composition.  The work is very colorful and relies (I am assuming here) on the full orchestration to give much needed heft to the libretto.  Unfortunately, as of this time, I have not been able to locate the brass, woodwind, and percussion parts or even a full score of the work.  We are using string parts found in the British Library and covering other parts with a piano.    I hope in the near future to focus on the second and third sections of the work.  In the meantime, if you happen to know of anyone who might own or have even seen the full score or other instrumental parts, please advise me so I can contact them.

Again, thank you for contacting us.
Sincerely,
James R. Fitzpatrick
