Miriam Makeba

John Malveaux of MusicUNTOLD.com writes:

Miriam Makeba, South African singer, songwriter, actress, United Nations goodwill ambassador, and civil rights activist, Nov. 15, 1968 performance at UCLA Pauley Pavilion is connected to two Long Beach Poly alumni. Lewis Gray, president of World Wide Production recruited me to locate a venue for a concert featuring Miriam Makeba. Debra Hill was a close activist friend, Poly alumni, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc .student at UCLA. Debra was also a founding board member of the Long Beach Community Improvement League. Debra Hill and I coordinated a meeting between UCLA chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Lewis Gray. The concert benefited UCLA scholarships. As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday, January 18, 2021, I am reminded that Dr. King spoke at UCLA in 1965 https://100.ucla.edu/timeline/martin-luther-king-jr-speaks-at-ucla
