Dr. Eric Conway writes:
Hello Morgan’s Fine and Performing Arts Community,
Many of you already know the Fine and Performing Arts Department is presenting the award-winning Musical The Wiz. This production is one of the many events on the university calendar celebrating Morgan’s sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary!
We
are now just one week before the opening night performance - Friday,
March 31, 2017 at 7:30 PM. Some may remember that the musical: The Wiz was
premiered here in Baltimore in 1974 at our now defunct Morris Mechanic
theatre. Baltimore's native-son Andre DeShields, who played the title
role of Wiz in the premiere, has agreed to attend our opening night
performance to make this production even more special. As a native
Baltimorean, at eleven years old, my family and I attended this premiere
production and immediately knew that this was an exceptional musical.
Many
of you have certainly seen The Wiz before, however, I encourage you to
see it again. When Morgan’s Fine and Performing Arts Department produces
a show such as this, it is certain to be an extraordinary event.
Showtimes are: Friday March 31, 7:30PM (Opening night); Saturday, April
1, 2PM and 7:30 PM; and Sunday April 2 at 3PM. All shows are in the
beautiful Gilliam concert hall in the Murphy Fine Arts Center.
Discounts are available for groups, seniors, students, and Morgan
faculty & staff.
This
is a great family event. This show is one weekend only! Please come
out and support Morgan’s Sesquicentennial production of the Wiz! I hope
to see you there!
Eric
