When you donate to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) you provide much needed financial support that strengthens this non-profit organization known for ...

• being the first academic organization devoted to African American Culture and History
• being the first black-owned and operated academic publisher
• the continuation of the first academic journal by and about African Americans
• continuing the observance of Black History Month which began as Negro History Week in 1926
• the organization founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, first descendant of slaves to graduate with a Ph.D. from Harvard University

ASALH's recent 98^th Annual ASALH Convention held October 2-6, 2013, in Jacksonville, Florida, surpassed all expectations and was a great success. Even with some last minute challenges impeding our course for the convention, more than 1,300 attendees were present and more than 175 sessions were offered, the most we have ever had. The convention featured inspiring and powerful speakers including  Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole at the banquet and Dr. Kaye Wise Whitehead's at Thursday's luncheon.   

  

ASALH is now more invigorated for our countdown to a century of service in 2015. With the 2015 Centennial Celebration serving as affirmation of a thriving Woodson legacy we ask that you make a generous contribution to the Second Century Annual Fund. As we applaud ASALH's successes, including our Annual Convention, Youth Day event, the Annual Black History Month Luncheon and the Living Legacy Awards, National Park Service collaborative educational programs, the White House Event, and our numerous publications, we say thank you to those who have helped along the way because we could not have gotten here without your support.

Despite these successes, ASALH still faces economic challenges because of the country's volatile economy.  Our donations are less than expected by this time in the budget year.  We need your help and are asking you to make a special contribution to ASALH before December 31, 2013. Help us to reach our goal of $60,000 for 2013.  Your tax-deductible gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or any generous amount to our Second Century Annual Fund will go a long way toward ensuring that the Woodson legacy continues.  If you have donated already this year, please consider making another gift.  You may safely donate directly online  or mail your check to ASALH.
