University of Wyoming Faculty Recital Series Presents Solo Pianist Sept. 20
September 12, 2013 — A solo piano recital continues
the University of Wyoming Department of Music fall Faculty Recital Series at
7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts
concert hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Pianist Theresa Bogard,
UW Department of Music chair, will cover a variety of styles, time periods
and nationalities. This fall, she will perform a concert series at three
venues out of state.
Bogard has developed an international reputation as a solo and
chamber
musician, an adjudicator of international competitions and an educator.
She has been honored with numerous teaching awards including the
Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Council for the
Advancement and Support of Education, and the 2008 Wyoming Professor of
the
Year Award.
She manages a faculty of 37 in her
department, along with several international graduate students; and maintains
her piano studio. Bogard is dedicating this
month's program to her longtime friend and mentor, pianist Helen Walker-Hill,
who died unexpectedly in August. Walker-Hill taught African American music
courses at UW.
