After a successful inaugural concert season in 2012-13, Selkirk
Pro-Musica kicks off a new season September 14th with celebrated
Brazilian/Canadian guitarist, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist,
composer and music educator Celso Machado.
Opening night of the Selkirk Pro-Musica goes Saturday, September 14
at 7:30 p.m. in the Shambhala Music and Performance Hall at Selkirk
College in Nelson.
Celso has performed on concert stages internationally for over 40
years; throughout North America, Europe and Asia. In fact, he just
finished touring in Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico, Atlin BC, and Reunion
Island in the Indian Ocean - 700 kilometres east of Madagascar.
While Celso's music is rooted in Brazilian rhythmic and melodic
styles, it also reflects his incurable fascination with other world
music traditions.
He won the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Award for World Solo Artist of
the Year, a Leo Award for best original music score for documentary, was
nominated for four JUNO Awards in the world music category and another
Leo Award for a documentary film score.
