Aug. 4 Rehearsal at Metropolitan AME Church for 'Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and His Music in America'

Rehearsal at Metropolitan AME Church August 4, 2012

The Longfellow Chorus
Dear Coleridge-Taylor Friends,

I am in Washington for the filming of our next segment of the documentary "Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and His Music in America." I think you will be interested in this informal video from today's rehearsal at Metropolitan AME Church. It not only includes Hiawatha the way you've never heard it before, it also demonstrates the original versions of "Keep me from sinking down" and "Nobody knows the trouble I see, Lord!" The latter, as you know, was used by SCT as the main theme of Hiawatha Overture; we filmed the other in the June representing the 1912 SCT/Maud Powell version:

Best wishes,

Charles Kaufmann
