In
celebration of Sphinx15, the Sphinx Organization has partnered with
ReviewRoom, an online application and submission management program,
to accept applications and videos for the Sphinx
Performance Academy (SPA) 2012.
Applications
for the Sphinx Performance Academy are due on March 26, 2012.
Unlike
previous years, we will no longer accept applications that are mailed
directly to the Sphinx Organization. We encourage all applicants to
register early to become familiar with the submission process.
“I
am excited to have this new medium through which our applicants can
share their artistic talents and our review committee can assess
their ability and musicianship.” says, Jada Wright-Greene, Director
of Education and Youth Development.
Sphinx
Performance Academy 2012 will be held in two institutions this year:
SPA
@ Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, July 1-15
SPA @
Northwestern University, August 5– 18
We
are excited about our new partnership with Northwestern University
and our continued ongoing partnership with Oberlin.
The
Sphinx
Performance Academy
is a full-scholarship intensive chamber music and solo performance
program designed for aspiring Black and Latino string players, ages
12-17, who demonstrate aptitude toward but lack the resources for and
access to quality music education. Students participate in a rigorous
private lesson and coachings schedule, in addition to daily monitored
practice sessions, masterclases and performances.
The
acclaimed Catalyst Quartet, Sphinx’s premiere chamber ensemble,
will serve as Senior Faculty for both sessions. Private lesson
instruction will be provided by Resident Quartet, comprised of top
alumni of the Sphinx Competition.
