“It’s
not everyday that you come across a composer that’s known as 'the
god of arms.' Afro French composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges was a
public figure, a preeminent fencing champion, gifted violinist and
composer.”
“Dear
Friends of L'Académie,
As 2011 draws to a close, we wanted to
take a moment and thank you for your support and appreciation this
year.
"This was a of year 'firsts' for L'Académie.
We performed at the Boston Early Music Festival and received a great
review from the Early Music America Journal. We were graciously
supported by the French Brand, Christofle (which included a party in
October to kick off our season) and presented our first opera
production Les
Plaisirs de Versailles by
Charpentier which garnered a glowing review in the Boston Musical
Intelligencer. The rest of season includes a Boston premiere of
gambist Andrew Arceci's Suite
for Gamba
(a modern work) in February 2012 and the performance of Afro-French
composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges' Violin Concerto in D major in
April 2012, also a first performance in Boston on period
instruments.
"So, as you can see, we've been pretty busy and
have been quite successful. To that, we owe it all to you, our
supporters. Thank you so much for being an integral part of our
season. We could not have done it without you." "We'll see you at Church of the Redeemer
on February 10th and 11th, 2012, for The
Vivaldi Code!
With
much admiration and appreciation,
Leslie Kwan
General
Director and Harpsichordist"
