Dominique-René de Lerma: “choruses of Spelman and Morehouse colleges sang Moses Hogan's setting of 'Elijah Rock'” Jan. 12

[Moses George Hogan (1957-2003)]

The 20th annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra was presented 12 January 2012, conducted by Robert Spano to a packed hall. The combined choruses of Spelman and Morehouse colleges sang Moses Hogan's setting of Elijah rock and the fourth movement of the Deutsches Requiem, "Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen" (How lovely is thy dwelling place). The orchestra performed Beethoven's Fidelio overture and, with Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed narrating words of Dr. King, Joseph Schwantner's memorial Dawn of a new morning. The concert was broadcast on Boston's NPR station, WBGH, reflecting on the attendance of Dr. and Mrs. King in their student days at the concerts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
