[Eric
Lacy]
“Eric
Lacy came to our attention because a work of his was premiered by the
Reston Community Orchestra at its Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert
January 14, 2012. We found this Bio at his website, which includes
scores and MP3 files:
“Eric
Lacy was born in Riverdale, Maryland. Primarily a self-taught
musician and composer, he started out writing Contemporary Christian
songs for church, which eventually led him to becoming the church
pianist and music director.
“Eric's
music can be characterized as 'stylistically lyrical and
melodic.' His compositional style reflects influences from
Beethoven, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Howard Hanson, Ellen Taaffe
Zwilich, and Christopher Rouse. His unique ability to combine the
style of romanticism with 21st century compositional techniques
brings a lush and expressive quality to his music.
“Eric
holds a Master's degree in film music composition from the University
of North Carolina School of the Arts. He is currently earning his
Master of Music degree in composition from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro. Principal composition teachers include Mark
Engebretson and Alejandro Rutty. Eric Lacy has composed for every
medium. Among these are his works for solo voice, chamber and
orchestral music, as well as film and television documentaries.”
