4 Senior Finalists have just minutes ago been announced at the 2019 22nd Annual Sphinx Competition – in Detroit, United States.
Open
to American Black and Latino high school and college students, the
annual competition is aimed at the encouragement, development and
recognition of classical music talent in the Black and Latino
communities.
2019 Senior Division Finalists are:
- 24-year-old cellist Laura Andrade
- 19-year-old cellist Sterling Elliott
- 26-year-old violist Caleb Georges
- 21-year-old violinist Adé Williams
“Whilst our jurors have historically progressed 3
candidates to the senior final round, due to the outstanding level of
today’s semi-final performances, the jury have taken
the uncharacteristic decision to progress 4 young artists this year to
compete on Saturday for the $50,000 Robert Frederick Smith prize,” Sphinx Organization President and Artistic Director Afa Dworkin has
told The Violin Channel.
