The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra 100th anniversary season includes  three (3) concerts highlighting  orchestral music of composer William Grant Still (died 1978). The LA Phil Feb. 17th matinee at Disney Concert Hall will also include the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork's STILL HOLDING ON followed by reception for Dr. Hailstork in the Green Room at Disney Concert Hall. William Grant Still also composed nine operas including Troubled Island (depicting the Haitian Revolution with a libretto by Langston Hughes). Prior to August 2003, City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs commissioned a mural of Troubled Island for an outdoor wall of the William Grant Still Art Center. James Burks, then director of WGS Art Center, contracted me to provide a vocal and instrumental selection from WGS catalog for the occasion. Judith Still, daughter and publisher of WGS Music, attended the performance, unveiling and reception. James Burks had been a player (French Horn) with the Watts Symphony Orchestra. WGS frequently attended rehearsals and performances of the Watts Symphony Orchestra. James Burks is an invited guest of MusicUNTOLD for Adolphus Hailstork reception on Feb. 17th in the Green Room at Disney Concert Hall.  See photo of James Burks.
