William
Grant Still's opera "Minette Fontaine" is set in 1840s New Orleans. It
was written in the 1950s for New Orleans Opera, but was never performed
here.
Minette,
an opera singer comes to New Orleans to sing at the opera house. After
being slighted by her hostess for not being of Creole society, she sets
her sights on revenge and enlists the help of Marie Laveau.
It's a tale of Creole angst, love triangles and consequences!!
