“Teresa Reed specializes in Music Theory and African-American Music. She holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University, and has worked in both test development and assessment for the GRE in Music, the Major Field Test in Music, and the Advanced Placement Exam in Music Theory. She is currently Chief Reader for the AP Exam in Music Theory. Her research on African-American music appears in reviews, articles, and book chapters, and her book, The Holy Profane: Religion in Black Popular Music (2003) has received favorable reviews and citations in Publisher’s Weekly, Choice, and Vibe Magazine. The Holy Profane was also a 2004 winner of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections’ Excellence Award. Dr. Reed serves as Director of the University of Tulsa School of Music.
