“Armenta Adams Hummings, founder of the Gateways Music Festival, grew up a pianist, graduated from the Juilliard School of Music, performed at Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully Hall, and was honored at a reception at the State Department for her contributions to international relations through her concert performances around the world.
“Hummings founded the biennial Gateways Music Festival in 1993 to celebrate the achievements of African-American classical musicians, and, since 1995, has held the festival in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music, where she was an associate professor.”
