My Cup Runneth Over:
The Complete Piano Works of R. Nathaniel Dett
R. Nathaniel Dett (1882-1943) is profiled at AfriClassical.com, which features a complete Works List by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma of Lawrence University Conservatory.
Morgan MacLeod writes:
I'm happy to share with you the upcoming November Navona release MY CUP RUNNETH OVER, by Philadelphia-based pianist Clipper Erickson. This milestone collection, recorded in Germany, presents the first complete recordings of African-American composer Robert Nathaniel Dett's piano works. Dett (1882-1943), regarded as an important figure in early 20th-century American music, was lauded in his lifetime as the first American composer to fuse African-American folk idioms with the European art music tradition in a sophisticated way.
Erickson will be performing pieces from MY CUP RUNNETH OVER on November 2 at Temple University's Rock Hall in Philadelphia PA. Erickson will also be premiering works by Laurie Altman, joined by clarinetist Matthias Mueller. If you would like to attend, you can find more information here:
