Oct. 6, 2019 attended Los Angeles Philharmonic program titled Dudamel conducts Gershwin (Concerto in F, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, piano) & Copland (Appalachian Spring Suite), Disney Concert Hall. The program opened with Samuel Barber Knoxville: Summer of 1915 sung by soprano Julia Bullock. Knoxville: Summer of 1915 is extremely difficult for voice but Julia Bullock met the challenge with intense concentration and beautiful singing. Jean-Yves Thibaudet received a standing ovation for the Gershwin piece.  The second half opened with Andre Previn's Can Spring Be Far Behind? The big closer was Appalachian Spring Suite. The star of the closing matinee performance was Dudamel. See photo of Julia Bullock. Julia Bullock will be featured in forthcoming Metropolitan Opera production of "Fire Shut Up In My Bones" with baritone Devone Tines.
