featuring mezzo soprano Denyce Graves at the Terrace Theater, Long
Beach, Ca. JUNETEENTH is the oldest celebration in the nation
commemorating the ending of slavery. In addition to the opera recordings
that made her famous, Ms. Graves had recorded the slave opera MARGARET
GARNER (based on Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize winning novel BELOVED.
Denyce Graves made
her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in the 1995-96 season in the title
role of "Carmen" and she is currently singing the role of "Maria" in the
current historic Metropolitan Opera production of PORGY & BESS
during the 2019/2020 season.
