NAACP: Happy International Women's Day

NAACP

On this International Women’s Day, we should all take a special moment to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of women of color.

It takes a certain kind of strength, grace, and resolve for Black women and other women of color to exist in a world where we have to confront sexism, racism, and other expressions of hate and intolerance almost daily.

Yet our stories of courage in the face of injustice and inequality do not always get the attention they should. Our sheroes who fight day in and day out to make the world a better place far too often go unnoticed.

The NAACP is changing that this Women’s History Month.

Throughout the month of March, we’ll be highlighting the stories of amazing women of color who have fought or are fighting to move America closer to the equal and just country it should be.

We’ve launched a new blog series, “Letters to Our Younger Self,” where NAACP members and staff share advice and nuggets of wisdom that they’ve picked up throughout their time in civil rights work. Read the first letter from NAACP member Doris Ann Cabaniss Shipman.

We’ll also be using our social media platforms to share stories about women of color who paved the path forward for women doing the work today and those who are shifting the paradigm for the next generation. For those stories, follow along on Twitter and Instagram.

Without the tenacity and contributions of Black women and other women of color, there would be no progress in America. We have been and always will be a guiding force in the movement to advance racial and gender equality.

This month, let’s all join together in honoring this work and pledging to do all we can to follow in their footsteps.

Kindly,

Aba Blankson
Vice President for Communications and Digital Media
