Description
While Bach’s inspiring B Minor Mass is sometimes performed by 200 singers or in excerpted form, this new Rockefeller performance features the 26-voice Chapel Choir—with professional semichorus The Decani and the Chapel’s choral scholars—offering the entire masterpiece. Acclaimed countertenor Reginald Mobley joins soloists Kaitlin Foley, Lindsey Adams, Matthew Dean, and Andrew Schultze, conducted by James Kallembach, and Chicago’s finest early instrumentalists form the 24-person orchestra, under concertmaster Jeri‑Lou Zike.Bach himself reached across traditions to set the traditional words of the Mass, and we present this work in period style in today’s urban environment: a mass for peace, in the words of its famous Agnus Dei, presented in not one but two powerful and yet intimate resonant spaces: our own Rockefeller Chapel, and Lincoln Park’s grand and acoustically vibrant St. Josaphat.
