John Malveaux: KUSC Classical Radio & MusicUNTOLD

John Malveaux of www.MusicUNTOLD.com writes:
MusicUNTOLD is the arts & educational production arm of the Long Beach Central Area Association.
KUSC Classical Radio 91.5 FM and MusicUNTOLD began an informal community partnership in 2009 when the MusicUNTOLD Orchestra & Chorale performed the west coast premiere and first performance of Roy Harris ‘Bicentennial Symphony’ since the 1976 premiere at the Kennedy Center. The June 13, 2009 concert was centerpiece of ‘Junteenth: Celebrating the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Long Beach. Juneteenth is the oldest celebration in the nation commemorating the ending of slavery. ‘Junteenth: Celebrating the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincolnwas co-sponsored by the City of Long Beach Parks Recreation & Marine Departments and Long Beach Central Area Association. The performance was endorsed by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee in Washington DC and video recorded by MusicUNTOLD. Ed Deweese, general manager of KUSC Classical Radio supported the concert with public service announcements and he personally attended the concert. See attachment
MusicUNTOLD presented ‘Junteenth World Wide Concert’ starring Mezzo Soprano Denyce Graves on June 19, 2011 at the Terrace Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center. MusicUNTOLD purchased underwriting spots from KUSC and KUSC donated public service announcements.  On September 22, 2012, MusicUNTOLD partnered with KUSC Classical Radio to co-produce the ‘150th Anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation Concert’. Gail Eichenthal, Executive Proucer KUSC,  served as host of the historic and unprecedented lineup of international and local classsical and opera artists performing on the AT&T Center stage in Los Angeles organized by a community organization. The concert enjoyed delayed broadcast and 30 day podcast via www.KUSC.org.
A subsequent change in KUSC Classical Radio management almost concluded the relationship with MusicUNTOLD. However, a revised relationship continued to help support diversity in classical music and unique community programming presented by MusicUNTOLD. KUSC Classical radio morning host Dennis Bartel was co-host with Dr. Zanaida Robles of the MLK Jr. 50th Anniversary ‘SYMPHONY of BROTHERHOOD’ Concert August 18, 2013, Zipper Hall-Colburn School in Los Angeles presented by MusicUNTOLD. Dennis Bartel also served as host for MLK Jr. ‘SYMPHONY of BROTHERHOOD’ Concert-Anniversary 1992 Riots- April 25, 2014, Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles, Ca. presented by MusicUNTOLD.
KUSC Dennis Bartel is host for the January 17, 2015 concert to celebrate the ‘150th Anniversary of 13thAmendment to the Constitution Ending Slavery’ at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on the campus of California State University Los Angeles. Roy Harris ‘Bicentennial Symphony’ is centepiece of the concert celebration co-produced by California State University Los Angeles Music, Theater, Dance Departments and MusicUNTOLD with support from Employee Community Fund of the Boeing Company and Colburn Foundation.
Gail Eichenthal, Executive Producer of KUSC, continues as a valuable contact for information and discussion of potential MusicUNTOLD projects. She is also a critical conduit to outside financial support for MusicUNTOLD annual ticketed concert. MusicUNTOLD present seven or more FREE (non-ticketed) program/events per year.
Thanks

John Malveaux
