The grandeur of Cincinnati Opera’s production of “Aida” was surpassed only by the splendor of the voice of Latonia Moore in the title role.
...

A superb cast of Verdi singers brought emotion to the fore as their characters were caught up in the tragic tale of love, war and political intrigue. And in the orchestra pit, Italian maestro Carlo Rizzi worked magic with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, propelling tempos and capturing both the sweep and subtlety of Verdi’s score.
The visual showstopper, of course, was the Act II Triumphal Scene, with more than 130 performers onstage.

...

Moore’s company debut as the Ethiopian princess will be remembered as one of the great performances on Music Hall’s stage. Her voluptuous, effortless sound soared over massive choral and orchestral forces, yet she also projected nuance and beauty. Her anguished “Ritorna vincitor!” (“Return, victor”) in Act I was striking for the emotional depth and the sympathetic tone she conveyed.
