“MICHIGAN CITY — 'Music is magic,' Nic
Orbovich, the Michigan City Chamber Music Festival co-founder, told
Joy Elementary School’s second- and third-graders who crowded into
the music room Wednesday for a performance. 'It has the opportunity
to change your lives.'
“The performance was the first in a
series over the next two days designed to introduce elementary
students to chamber music, which is small groups of musicians playing
together like a 'conversation among friends,' Orbovich said. The
school concert combined a violin, viola, cello and pianist, although
other musicians and instruments may take part in other concerts on
the schedule.
“The concert featured several pieces arranged
by black composers, including Scott Joplin and William Grant Still,
as a tribute to Black History Month.” [
