Hale Smith (1925-2009) was an African American composer, pianist and professor who passed away on November 24, 2009 after a lengthy illness. His complete Works List has been compiled by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma and is featured on the composer's page at AfriClassical.com. Four concerts will be held as a Salute to Black History Month in memory of Hale Smith:

On Behalf of Park Avenue Presenters (PAP) and the Long Island Composers Alliance (LICA) we announce our second Salute to Black History Month dedicated to the memory of Hale Smith, distinguished African-American composer (and member of LICA). Our series of four concerts feature vocalists Tara Nova and Natalya Simone, pianists Jade Simmons, Paul Hefner and Rob Schwimmer, cellist Soo Bae, flute and saxophone Jimmy Cozier, drummer Victor Jones, the South Nassau Universalist Unitarian Congregation African Drum Ensemble “The DrUUmatics” and the Freeport High School Select Chorale under the direction of Monique Retzlaff. Three of the four concerts will be presented at the South Nassau Universalist Unitarian Congregation, Freeport, NY.

To Be Held On: SUNDAY February 6 from 2:00-5:00PM. In association with the 2nd annual “Hale Smith Day” as proclaimed by the Village of Freeport in 2010; Concert at South Nassau Universalist Unitarian Congregation, 228 South Ocean Ave, Freeport, NY 11520.
