Hello,
June 19th is
just around the corner and I wanted to invite you to my annual
Juneteenth Concert Celebration at Joe’s Pub in NYC. This concert is
part of Toshi Reagon’s GoodFolk series at the Pub and this year I am
sharing the bill with the supremely gifted singer-songwriter-pianist
Tariq Al-Sabir.
The
program will include everything from classical music by
African-American composers to new soul by Tariq. We’ve put a lot of
energy and love into this project and can’t wait to share it with you!
Inspired by June 19th, 1865, the day that Union soldiers
arrived in Galveston, Texas to spread word of freedom as granted in the
Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, we are celebrating all the forms that
black music-making takes, reveling in the redemptive power of the
creative spirit. Come joins us for what promises to be a glorious
evening.
