Byron J. Smith

Byron J. Smith of the NANM writes:

I hope this new edition of Reverberations finds you doing well.
It's almost Convention time and what an exciting convention we've planned along side our host branch, Dr. Wilfred Delphin and the newly reconstituted B Sharp Club of New Orleans. We choose the theme Celebrating Our Rebirth as a tribute to B Sharp of New Orleans to commemorate their 100 years of continued musical service to the greater New Orleans area as well as their return to NANM. Our 98th National Convention is sure to be musically "action-packed" in the alluring city of New Orleans, July 16-20, 2017 . You will not want to miss it!

We are building this convention around the vibrancy and vitality of New Orleans! This year's featured artists include a performance by Grammy Award Winner Ellis Marsalis and concert violinist Tami Lee Hughes. Other featured concerts include the Opening Mass Meeting (Sunday, July 16th, 3:30pm, Xavier University Chapel); Strings Scholarship Competition (Sunday, July 16th, 7:30pm, Marriott New Orleans); Gala Benefit Concert (Monday, July 17th, 7:30pm, Marriott New Orleans); New Orleans Artists Night (Tuesday, July 18th, 8pm, Marriott New Orleans) and the Gala Awards Banquet (Wednesday, July 19th, 7:30pm, Marriott New Orleans).
This year, our organization will honor the life’s work of our own pianist/composer/musical director Joseph Joubert, choral conductor/educator Dr. Malcolm J. Breda, educator  Patricia Sallier Seals and composer Dr. Roger Dickerson. In addition, we will be honoring the B Sharp of New Orleans, and their founders Camille Nickerson (former NANM National President) and Lillian Perry.
I am proud that our National Conventions continue to provide a spectacular opportunity for artists to share information, knowledge and musical performances for youth, college age students, young artists and adults. This year, we are centering our focus on all things New Orleans. Artists include Givonna Joseph and OperaCréole, jazz aficionado and educator Dr. Michael White, choral conductor Dr. John Ware, and opera singer Robert Sims. We are also so excited to  feature some of our best talent from around the country in a Members Recital to be held at the Historic New Orleans Collection. Additionally, our Juniors/Youth and Collegiate students will travel to the Whitney Plantation for a tour and performance in the historic chapel on the plantation.
What a great way to showcase NANM's unique niche in the music world!
I encourage you to plan to attend as we enjoy an incredible musical experience, rediscover our love for music and reconnect with one another… On the Road to 100!

See you in July!

National President, NANM

This sounds exciting! I have never been to New Orleans. This would surely be a good time to visit my Papa's place of birth.
