The weekend concerts of January 19 to 21, 2017, mark the subscription
concert debut of the Minnesota Orchestra's recently appointed Associate
Conductor, Roderick Cox. Earlier in January, at a reception in his
honor at Minnesota Public Radio, Cox spoke about how he became a
conductor, what inspires his work, and his evolving connection to the
ensemble. Use the audio player above to listen to Cox's interview with Performance Today host Fred Child.
On
Friday, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m., on Classical MPR, you can hear a live
broadcast as Maestro Cox conducts one of his favorite works,
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, plus Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of
a Faun, and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, for which he and the
orchestra are joined by pianist Joyce Yang.
