Happy
New Year! We hope you've had an enjoyable holiday season and that 2016
is off to a good start. We invite you to join us at 7pm on Tuesday,
January 12th at The San Diego Museum of Art when our CROSSING THE DIVIDE season continues with "Concentric Circles."
The
idea of concentric circles serves as a reminder that there is always
common ground to be found, even among the most disparate elements. This
program features San Diego's inventive choral ensemble SACRA/PROFANA with "Effortlessly Love Flows" (from Aaron Jay Kernis' "Ecstatic Meditations") and
"Observing" (from Dominick Argento's "Walden Pond"), as well as
"Honest Music" for solo violin by Nico Muhly, a haunting contemplation
on the world's "makeshift nature...the sad beauty of things coming
together and things falling apart." The concert ends with Arvo Pärt's
"Tabula Rasa," a minimalist exploration of man's inherent need for
peace and introspection.
Tickets ARE still available for this and the remaining concerts this season at The San Diego Museum of Art:
We are also thrilled to report that
our 2015 fundraising challenge was met last week with our fans and
supporters raising over $6000 to help match our Stensrud Foundation
challenge grant, funding our "Young Artists in Harmony" outreach program
at A Reason To Survive (ARTS) in National City! We are filled with so much gratitude and are already busy making plans for next year's residency.
On behalf
of the talented students we had the privilege of working with each week
for 10 weeks, we THANK YOU for lending your voice and your resources to
this worthy initiative. If you are still interested in supporting the
cause, we ARE still looking to raise more funds in order to make next
year's residency a year-round program. Click HERE
for more info about this past year's residency, which included the
commissioning of 8 new works by student composers (many of whom had
never before written for classical musicians) and visit Instant Encore to stream the entire performance for FREE.
