The 2nd
National Intercultural Choral Workshops will bring to St. Louis some of
America's outstanding choral educators for workshops, master classes,
hands-on instruction and concert demonstrations. Participants will learn
tools for growing their choral repertoire and expanding their cultural
horizons and, in the process, enjoy hands-on training sessions in
conducting music repertoire previously inaccessible to them. From
October 9 through October 12, daily instruction and demonstration
concerts will be held in Gospel Music, African-American Spirituals, a
cappella jazz, American folksong traditions, Afro-Caribbean, and African
traditional and contemporary music repertoire. Breakout workshop
sessions will be held daily, each focused on a specific genre of choral
music. Each day's events will culminate in an evening concert where
participants can showcase new skills and performance techniques. The
events will be held at Benton Hall and J.C. Penney Auditorium at the
University of Missouri-St. Louis, Grand Center and selected church
venues in the Central West-End and University City.
