Yachats,
Oregon has been the seaside home to the Yachats International Music
Festival for 34 years. The Festival was first envisioned by its
Founder, the late Dr. W. Hazaiah Williams, who directed the Festival
from its inception in 1981 until his death in 1999. The Festival
continues in his memory, with dedication to his vision and spirit.
The
Festival concerts are organized so that most artists perform in each
concert, either in solo or ensemble pieces. The mostly classical
repertoire is often augmented by jazz, Latin, Spirituals, Flamenco and
Broadway melodies. The four daytime seminars are presented by four or
more chosen artists.
Artists for the 34th Yachats International Music Festival include: Ayn Balija, violist; Leon Bates, pianist; Chiao-Wen Cheng, pianist; Portia Diwa, Celtic harpist; Marco Granados, flutist; Gerry Hecht, pianist; Dennis Helmrich, pianist; Cornelius Johnson, tenor; Kimberly Jones, soprano; Elaine Kreston, cellist; Rafael LeBron, baritone; Ilya Martinez, soprano; Autris Paige, baritone; Tom Rose, clarinetist; David Sigal, pianist; Anthony Turner, baritone; David Wong, guzheng and guqin; Anyango Yarbo-Davenport, violinist; and Jeongeun Yom, pianist.
