Happy Birthday Ebony Magazine!
In
November 1945, Ebony magazine debuted as the African American
counterpart to Life Magazine, offering articles and ads specifically
catered to a black readership. In November 1947, Lena Horne, pictured
here, graced the cover. As a 68-year-old
media outlet with 11 million readers, Ebony has played a major role in
guiding the dialogue on contemporary black issues. Media owned and
operated by people of color gives a voice to stories that may otherwise
be ignored, so we applaud them!
