[Mokale Koapeng]
AfriClassical has exchanged news and information with South African composer and choral director Mokale Koapeng for years. We interviewed him while he was in Canada for a performance tour. Mokale Koapeng sends this profile of his career as a composer, listing numerous works and performances:

Mokale Koapeng studied harmony and counterpoint with Carl van Wyk and
Henk Temmingh and orchestration with the late Walter Mony. He studied
composition with Jeanne Zaidel-Rudolph. Mokale has also worked with
musicians like Sibongile Khumalo, Phillip Tabane, Wendy Mseleku, Gloria
Bosman, Khaya Mahlangu, Richard Cock, and many more. He was co-music
director of the Transnet Sowetan Massed Choir Festival. He is the music
director of SDASA Chorale. His collaborative work with Sibongile
Khumalo, Motsumi Makhene Themba Mkhize and Hugh Masekela, 'Milestone;
the Musical' won the 1999 SAMA Awards for best soundtrack. As a
composer, he has composed for groups and festivals like Salisbury
Community Choir (UK), Nightingale String Quartet (Denmark), Fitzwilliam
Quartet (UK), I Fagiolini (UK), National Arts Festival, Grahamstown.
Composer-in-Residence for the following festivals: Consonances: Saint
Nazaire, France 2005, Ihlombe: South African Choral Festival 2010 and
the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival 2011.
