Daniel Marciano was responsible for the fencing sequences of the International Saint-Georges Festival in Guadeloupe, April 28 to May 1, 2011. He has forwarded the above photos. One shows a rehearsal for re-enactment of the famous fencing bout held at the invitation of the Prince of Wales in London, between Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges and La chevalière d'Éon. Though dressed as a woman, d'Éon was actually a male diplomat who was a spy for the King of France.
Daniel Marciano tells us:
“Here is a nice picture of a rehearsal of the re-enactment of the fencing bout d'Eon-Saint-Georges presented by Frédéric Bourrier and Véronique Bouisson who holds a degree of 'maître d'armes' and coaches the actors of her company, + a picture of the five actors of 'La Tulipe Noire', the company who took part in the fencing show I coordinated. The sumptuous costumes the actors wore were made by Véronique Bouisson's mother, who is a talented seamstress.” [A detailed biography of Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799) can be found at AfriClassical.com]
